Your mum sent us (my mum and I) a copy of your book. Initially, while reading the dream scene at the beginning of the book, I thought, "really, Obama and Michelle" this is going to be corny, but then I got into it and could not put the book down. I can't wait for part 2! You've been blessed with a wonderful gift, and I wish you the very best in all your endeavors.

Dear Vigil

I can’t wait to read your book …. And love the video … very nice touch… connecting us with you

One comment though…. I appreciate the thought behind exploring and expressing the immigrants experience. I however must mention that you as a Nigerian first and foremost represent the Nigerian immigrant experience and not the African immigrant experience. I hate it when European use the word Africa as a blanket statement and I hate it even more when we as Africans, lump each and every country within the continent as one. I strongly believe that we have so much more than just one voice. Don’t get me wrong I love and adore my Africaness but as an Ethiopian there is an additional facet of me, an additional experience, worldview etc… But I can never claim that my experience as an Ethiopian immigrant in London can fully represent all “African immigrants’ experiences” in the UK . Similarly I cannot profess to represent all African immigrants outside of their continent…. As what you have experienced in the US is certainly not exactly the same as what I experienced here in the UK

Hope you understand the above

I loved Vigil's book. Her writing style is superb. I find the book extremely professional, compared to others I have read like hers. It has a good story, (one I can relate to, in fact) and it's fast reading. I think next she should broaden her horizon and start writing a blockbuster that will sell mainstream and possibly become a movie, she definitely has the talent. In fact "My Songbird Can Dance" could be a major motion picture, rivalling such movies as "Precious" and Beyonce's "Obsessed" it is just that good. I could see Beyonce playing the part of Eefee, this is a vehicle that could earn her an Oscar. I highly reccomend this book and can't wait to read more of Vigils works and see more of her movies.

Rachel is someone I loved to hate to love! There were moments as I was reading where I was like, "No she didn't." Then other times I was like, "No he didn't." Very well written Vigil. I look forward to the next book (the conclusion). What will Rachel do? I can't wait.
